8 Thottakkal review A dark crime thriller with detailed characters Rating 2.75 /5
Verdict: A dark crime thriller with detailed characters.
8Thottakkal is a crime thriller directed by Sri Ganesh, starring Vetri and Aparna in lead roles. Nasser, MS Baskar and mime Gopi play important roles.
8 Thottakkal starts with the childhood of Vetri who goes to jail for the murder he didn’t do. He then becomes a reserved good police office after years. Someone steals his police gun while travelling in a bus. Now he will lose his job and his future will be destroyed if he hasn’t get his gun back. But gun went into rowdy’s hands. A bank robbery and an unintentional murder happens with his lost gun. It is followed by a number of murders with the bullets from his gun. On the other side, the three robbers and misunderstandings between them rise to killings among themselves. How did Vetri with the help of police officer Nasser finds the kidnapper and what happens finally forms the rest of the story.
The film gets straight into the story and sets the tone for audience. The way Information is given, what to give and what will be understood without saying it, is all intelligently played by the director. He sure knows the mind of the audience.
Vetri did a silent good job, while actress aparna has less screen space. MS Bhaskar takes the center stage in second half. He has a detailed characterisation, he simply rocks. He is proving time again that he is a wonderful character artist. Nasser ususal gives a perfect performance as a police officer. This film has many little emotions placed well at places.
The film gives the feel of a dark crime thriller. In first half every scene forwards the story with no dull moments, second half is little dragged compared to first half. The end could’ve been trimmed. The two dull moments of the film is during the songs. Both the songs are speed breaker and we do not feel any need for the songs.
Cinematographer Dinesh Babu has done a excellent job, his shots are used to tell stories that mingles with editing. Thanks to the good collaborative work of Director, Cinematographer and Editor. Sundaramurthy’s music helps to bring out the insecurity in Audience.
Overall, its a great crime thriller that should be appreciated.
