Silukkuvarupatti Singam Movie Review

The makers of Silukkuvarupatti Singam are pretty clear about what they are to convey and deliver. A reasonless and forgetful movie, but something you have your funny bones tickled while you are in theatres. That’s what the stress busters are for and debut filmmaker Chella Ayyavu hailing from the school of Ezhil brings it custom-made for those audiences, who aren’t there for emotional, roller-coaster thrillers or any revenge seeking tales. Firstly, it’s the choice of Vishnu Vishal, where he tries to follow ‘One-Humour-One-Offbeat’ formulae. Here is something you need to know about Silukkuvarupatti Singam. There is no logic and nothing special for the exceptional genre film lovers.

It’s a film tailor-made for those hardcore dim-witted comedy film lovers. If you want to laugh out loud and just forget the movie as you walk out, it’s Silukkuvarupatti Singam that will be your piece of cake to kill your time. Don’t ask for what’s the plot for it’s not more than a line. The film is about a happy going constable goes on hide and seek game when he unfortunately nabs down the most dreaded notorious gangster and he wants him bumped off now.

‘Ezhil’ is the word completely written all over the movie and his protégé-filmmaker Chella Ayyavu has clearly followed the same traits of utilizing slapstick and witty liners together. Although, there are more comedy actors, it’s Yogi Babu who steals the show. The surprising part is Sai Ravi, who is regarded as the most terrorizing onscreen villain in South Indian cinema evoking laughter. The director deserves special mention for sketching this character in unique way, which is really a difficult task. When it comes to screenplay, there isn’t much to analyze or think about. The entire story is written with humour in mind, keeping sub-urban and rural audiences in mind. Vishnu Vishal has already proved his best in offbeat and intense genre movies. Whereas he is slightly improving his standard with humour too. But we would like to see him getting humorous rather than banking on his co-stars for he has such potentials.
On the whole, Silukkuvarupatti Singam is especially for those who aren’t bothered about any logics and if your intention is just to laugh out loud at places, this will be your time pass flick.

Verdict: A very simple story that evokes humour in places
Rating: 2.5/5
